Arte in Nuvola | Galleria Abscondita

22-24 November 2024 | International Fair of Modern and Contemporary Art | La Nuvola, Roma.
In spring 2025, a selection of works from Andrea Morucchio’s PUZZLING RENAISSANCE series was presented at the 4th International Fair of Modern and Contemporary Art Arte in Nuvola in Rome, produced by Galleria Abscondita.

On the occasion of the fair’s fourth edition, Gabriele Frasca curated a journey through time exploring the enduring legacy of the Venetian aesthetic. The booth opened with a refined dialogue between the ephemeral glassworks of Vittorio Zecchin and the contemporary photomosaics of Andrea Morucchio.

Morucchio’s works—digital reinterpretations of Renaissance nudes—are composed of thousands of photographic tesserae derived from the polychrome marble floors of the Basilica di San Marco. Through this intricate process, the artist transforms fragments of Venice’s architectural heritage into layered, pixel-like surfaces that reconstruct archetypes of ideal beauty.

Despite the temporal distance, as Frasca notes, both artists share a common lineage: drawing inspiration from the Renaissance as a model of ideal harmony, while reinterpreting its archetypes through the distinct sensibilities of their respective eras.
